The new president is the first African-American to be President of the United States.
  He will bring people together.
He will try to help poor people.
Our new President is Barack Obama.

Our school mock election

When we had our school election, Obama had 444 votes and McCain had 18 votes. The student government (8th graders) set up
our election. We had to fill out a form to be able to vote. We had to register to vote as a Republican, Democrat or independent.
On voting day, November 3, we went to the cafeteria stage. Each of us got a ballot so that we could vote for whom we wanted. We
went into booths to vote, marked our ballots, folded them in half and put them in the ballot box. That way our voting was private.
The ballot had the pictures and names of Obama and McCain. Under the pictures were circles. Each voter filled in the circle of the
candidate he or she wanted. In our very orderly line we chanted “Obama, Obama!” The older kids laughed at that. At the end of our
school election the 8th graders counted the vote.

EXTRA!
We have some really exciting news for you! Our principal, Mr. Sabin, used to play basketball with Barack Obama. They were both
studying at Harvard.
Kyara’s babysitter and Youssef of our 4th grade live in the building on Broadway where President-elect Obama used to live!
We all think Obama will be a good President.
Healey Craft Fair
Christopher Pedro

On  Friday December 5th the  Healey
PTA is sponsoring the first annual
festival. There will be arts and crats
activities, face painting and a winter
wonderland obstacle course in the gym
for kids for adults and kids there will be
a concession stand, bake sale table,
raffle table, and homemade crafts
blankets jewelry and other things for
sale. There will also be a table of the
most recent publication of what’s
happening at the Healey, plus Jeans
designed by club members.
During the evening there will be
guest visits by the “pocket lady” and
the Winter Solstice goddess. Mrs.
Harris also said they would be bringing
a surprise friend. Mrs. Harris says
there is no cost for the craft making
tables, face painting, of the obstacle
course. There is also FREE
ADMISSION.
The concession and bake sale will
have their usual great low prices and
the raffles will be cheap too.
All the gifts that visitors can buy have
been made by the Healey students.
This event is co-sponsored by the
student council. This is going to be a
great school event.
Can Drive
By Eliza Forrest and Marisa Rafal

The student government (made up of 7th and
8th graders) has been collecting cans of food
for people who can’t afford food elsewhere.
They are going to be collecting the cans from
Monday November 17th to November 25th.
We hope you will choose to donate to the
Healey’s collection of cans, but you can
always donate to the needy. You can donate
to soup kitchens or food pantries all the time
but we think it might be nice to donate to the
Healey’s collection, because it is exciting
when they announce over the loudspeaker
how many cans they collected, and you know
that you contributed. It’s nice to be able to
know that you helped your school raise more
cans, and help other people.
If you do want to donate then there will be
bags and boxes by the office for you to put
your cans in. We hope you will help to ease
the hunger of people who are starving.
LATE POLICY
and new school rules

by RAQUEL OPPEDISANO

You should always be early never
late. If you are late you will have to go
to detention with Mr. Sabin. ONE new
school rule is if you have no hall pass
and a teacher sees you, you will also
need to go to detention.

by Anne Augustin

You should never be late. You should
never be late because if you are late
you will detention. And when you get
detention it might go on your report
card. So if I were I would never be
late for school.
